Samson is a beautiful, 3 year old, plush coated German Shepherd Dog. He has had obedience training and is ready to be adopted. He is looking for a home with either a single person household or a small household that does not get a lot of visitors. He is very protective and his new owners will need to keep this in mind anytime someone comes over. He MAY not do well with younger kids (he has never been around them), but would probably do well with teens that respect and understand dogs.
He is very much an indoor dog. Wants to be with or near his person. He hates being outside alone or going out if it is rainy (It messes up his hair-do) He does well in a crate and is left loose in the house at night with no issues, and no destruction.
He is possessive of his food and food things such as bully sticks and chew bones (another reason that we would be concerned about him with small children that might try to take food from him). He is good with soft toys and hard chews (nylabones and benebone). He is not toy driven and does not obsess over a ball.
Samson would most likely do well with someone who bikes or runs. Absolutely needs a firm leader who understands Shepherds or working breeds. If you give him an inch, he will go miles with it.
Excellent alert dog – will alert to anything unusual outside.
He is NOT a go-everywhere kind of dog unless you are willing to put the work in with him. (He likes to bark at cars going down the road from the backseat).
